PIWIs are incredibly fascinating and still relatively unknown – I want to change that!

This tour is an exciting and entertaining treat for all the senses: biodiversity, fauna, flora, geology, and the stunning landscape come together for a unique nature experience.

With passion and enthusiasm, I’ll serve knowledge bites you can easily understand about viticulture, PIWIs (fungus-resistant (Pilz Wiederstandfähig in German) grape varieties that are more robust against powdery and downy mildew), and what we currently observe in vineyard development. We’ll dive into modern crossbreeding in the Pfalz region, the opportunities and challenges of these pioneering wines, and the push for greater sustainability in viticulture, all while tasting estate-grown, fungus-resistant wines.

Feel free to ask your own questions and make this tour an interactive and even more valuable experience for you.

Excited about the wines?

Let yourself be surprised by Cabernet Blanc, Calardis Musqué, Calardis Blanc, and Cabertin!
We’ll also enjoy a rare treat in Germany: Tempranillo, a grape originally from Spain, which thrives beautifully in the Saumagen vineyard thanks to climate changes.

By the end of the tour, you’ll have enriched your knowledge of viticulture and “new” grape varieties, had fun, taken a few memorable photos, and experienced a surprising wine tasting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are welcome, provided they do not disrupt the event and are friendly to people and other dogs. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.

What happens in "bad" weather?
The event takes place in any weather. Please bring appropriate clothing (sun hat, raincoat, umbrella, jacket, etc.). If you have a special program planned afterwards, you might also want to bring spare clothes. In case of heavy rain, I offer you and the group the option to separate the hike from the wine tasting and conduct the tasting in the winery's barn. However, it’s important to me that we still go outside, even if just a little, to experience the vibrant nature.
